EDA Dress Policy: 

Why a Dress Code? 

-Tradition and respect for the art

-It is essential for reinforcing in students a sense of respect and discipline.

-It reinforces the integrity of EDA’s dance education program.

-To provide the best instruction, it is crucial for teachers to be able to see the dancer’s body placement to make corrections.

Tiny Dancer and Star Dancer Combo Classes:

Hair needs to be neatly pulled back and off the face (bun, ponytail, braid) no half up half down

Pink tights*

Any color leotard*

Ballet skirt of your choice

Pink ballet slippers*

Black tap shoes*

*These items are available for purchase in studio at the EDA Dance Store

Level 1 and above:

ABSOLUTELY NO:

· T-shirts—long or short sleeve

· Sweatpants or sweat-shorts

· Sweatshirts

· Sweaters (unless a ballet wrap)

· Hoodies

· Socks with no dance shoes

If it’s clothing you would wear to school…don’t wear it to dance! 

Ballet Classes:

Pink tights (convertible or footed)

Leotard of your choice

Dance shorts (tight not loose fitting)

Split-sole pink ballet slippers (please check back for specific brand)

Hair in a bun

In cold weather a tight fitting ballet sweater or studio warm up jacket/leg warmers are allowed

Jazz:

Dance attire like leotard, tights, leggings, jazz pants, dance shorts etc. 

Absolutely no casual clothing as mentioned above

Jazz shoes…not foot undies or pirouettes 

Hair neatly up (bun, braid, ponytail etc.)

Tap: 

Dance attire

Tap shoes

Hair up (bun, braid, ponytail etc.)

Lyrical/Contemporary:

Dance attire: leotard, shorts, leggings, tights

No casual clothing (t-shirts, sweatpants, sweatshirts…)

Pirouettes 

Hair neatly pulled up (bun, ponytail, braid etc.)

Acro:

Dance attire like above-leotard with shorts, unitard shorts, no baggy clothing because it can get caught up and is dangerous

Bare feet

Hair up (Hair in bun)

No jewelry (stud earrings are the ONLY thing allowed)

All Hip Hop Classes:

Any shirt (tee-shirt, tank or sweatshirt)

Black bottoms- loose or fitted

Shoes (any sneakers not worn outside)

Irish Step:

Black ballet shoes or ghillies (irish step soft shoes)

Leotard and dance shorts with dance top 

Hair neatly pulled back off face (bun, ponytail, braid, etc.)

Encore Performance Teams and Competition Classes:

Black leggings or dance shorts (tights must be worn if wearing shorts)

Leotard

If you would wear it to school….don’t wear it to dance!
